See How a Championship Supercross Team Lives
When the GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda rig rolls into Las Vegas this weekend for the Monster Energy Supercross finale, desert heat will be in true form, with temperatures projected to be near 100ºF (good thing the team uses AMSOIL!). But, back in their air-conditioned, state-of-the-art facility in Corona, Calif., the team has been hard at work all season prepping for each race weekend, testing engines and making sure the bikes (and riders) are in tip-top shape for race day.
In the latest edition of AMSOIL Signature Series, we go behind the scenes of the team’s headquarters in Corona. See where all the magic happens as we stroll through where the team’s mechanics build and test these two-wheeled wonders. Carson Mumford’s “work of art?” An in-house dyno? Built-to-ride suspension? We cover it all.
Then, we’ll take a trip to the team’s motocross track to watch one of the team’s 250 West Coast riders, Jeremy Martin, lay down a few laps. Check it out below.
The GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda team has amassed numerous amateur and professional motocross championships throughout its 19 years of existence. Managed by past Supercross and Motocross champion Mike LaRocco, GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda has developed into the premier racing organization in the Motocross world, taking riders from the amateur ranks and grooming them into professional riders, using AMSOIL products all along the way.
We quizzed the team’s technical director, Kristian Kibby, on two of the team’s favorite products, AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Dirt Bike Oil and AMSOIL Power Foam. Geek-out as he gets pretty technical below, explaining how AMSOIL excels even in those extreme desert temps.
As far as the engine oil goes, we like the fact that it resists molecular break down at high temps and the additives continue to protect our vital engine parts in the most extreme temperatures and toughest conditions during the long motocross motos deep in the middle of the summer heat.
We use AMSOIL Power Foam to remove and dissolve carbon deposits on our engine parts during an engine tear-down. On a disassembled engine only, we will spray Power Foam onto the cylinder head ports and combustion chamber and also the valves and piston. It eases clean-up and allows quick removal of carbon deposits, minimizing time wasted scrubbing and avoiding the over-use of harsh abrasives to do the job.
