European vehicles feature gasoline and diesel engines with emissions systems that are highly sensitive to SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur) content. SAPS are common oil additives that provide desirable performance properties, including detergency and protection against wear and oxidation. However, protecting sensitive emissions systems found in European vehicles requires different SAPS levels for different vehicles – it’s not a one-size-fits-all deal.
