I’m Len Groom – technical product manager for powersports at AMSOIL

This is my 77 F150 150.
For me it’s always been about powersports all the way through my life. My parents actually got us snowmobiles when we were very small. The snowmobiles are almost too big for us. From the snowmobiles we went to dirt bikes and we figured out how to ride them graduating up and up and up. And at my cabin we always had jet skis so i continued that tradition.  I’ve got three jet skis. The jet skis are very modified. There is no stock parts left on them because you need them to do a specific thing for you so you modify for them to do that.

The four wheeler is made to do what it was designed to without having to be modified. I just use it as a plow, we drive into the woods you know I just enjoy it but it always comes back to this truck. I’ve had this thing since I was a junior in high school I remember seeing it drive by. The neighbor used to own it before we bought it so this is something that it always comes back to this you know I’ve worked on it over the course of all these years but it’s always been red, it’s always had the roll bars.  It’s always looked basically the same as when I used to stand at the bus stop watch that thing drive past. It hasn’t changed too much but a little bit just enough to make it fun

AMSOIL Staff Members have a Passion about their work and are Devoted in to making the products they represent the best. Development never takes a back seat.

The truck came stock with a 400 M which is a nothing special engine. I wanted to do a bigger engine so I decided a 429 with a manual transmission should do the trick. In case the big block engine didn’t get the job done I have added a 200-horsepower shot of nitrous oxide – you can really get yourself in trouble with that. It comes out in the summer it doesn’t see winter anymore but it comes out in the summer and we’ll take it out on the trails and climb up some Hills every now and again. I’ll even splurge and take it through some mud. I gotta wash it after that but it gets used the way it was designed.

Amsoil Tech Boss for PowersportsIt’s a passion! You find that one thing that that makes you happy that makes you calm that it gives you pleasure it gives you satisfaction and for me its engines doesn’t matter what size engine whether they’re in these tiny little RC trucks or dirt bikes or my awesome 77 F150. It’s all an engine. Let’s see how fast we can make it go, let’s see what we can do to it to make it better and fortunately i get to do that for a job! We’re basically in charge of developing product and then testing the product so we look at things from the chemistry standpoint. Then how does our stuff stack up against let’s say a competitor or how does it work in the equipment and then what we need to do is we need to develop the tests and we need to go out and actually conduct the testing so I get to work with all this power sports equipment as we’re building oil for it.

I’m Len Groom technical product manager for powersports at amsoil and I’m into four-wheel-drive trucks!

Noack Volatility

Low-Volatility motor oil helps unlock vehicle performance   To meet today’s strict motor oil specifications and adequately protect modern engines, motor oils must demonstrate increased resistance to volatility. Nearly 30 years ago AMSOIL became the first oil manufacturer in the United States to use the NOACK Volatility Test (ASTM D5800) as a measure of performance […]
